Water damage, is it over now?

Imagine you're going to the bathroom and before you know it, your phone slips out of your hands and falls into the toilet. Or you're working on your laptop and your cup of coffee falls over your keyboard. What now? In this blog we give some tips on what to do in case of water damage.

1. Prevention The first tip is of course avoidance, because "prevention is better than cure". If you are going to do something that involves moisture, try not to use your phone, laptop or tablet.

2. First step

If it is too late to prevent, then we must start curing. The first step is to turn off your device as soon as possible and try to remove as much moisture as possible with a dry cloth or paper towel. It can also help to place your device next to a heat source, such as a heater. Try to avoid placing the device too close to the heat source, as 'too' warm is not good either.

3. Don't turn on your device

The first thing people do in case of water damage is check whether the device still works and turn it on. This is actually the worst thing to do, since almost every electrical device contains a battery. Since electricity and water do not mix well, we advise you not to switch on the device that has come into contact with moisture. It is very tempting to turn on your phone or laptop to see if it works, but the advice is really not to do this!

4. Water damage treatment

If your device has come into contact with any form of moisture (water, tea, coffee, soft drinks), take your device to a company that can perform water damage treatment. This water damage treatment increases the chance that your device can still be saved and will not suffer any consequential damage later. Such a water damage treatment usually does not cost very much and is really worth it to save your device. Don't wait too long for this. The longer you wait, the less likely it is that your device can be saved. This is because corrosion occurs in your device as a result of the reaction between electricity in your device and moisture.

In short: first prevent, then cure. If the damage has already been done, dry your device as quickly as possible and do not try to turn it on. Have your device cleaned with a water damage procedure and increase the chance that your device will live again. You can always contact BudgetFix for water damage treatment for your device. This is possible from €39.00.
